community event - september 2001
As part of the national festival Japan 2001, Green Close Studios Ltd. was able to offer a range of Japanese events to the surrounding district alongside their own studio exhibition.
A performance of traditional comic storytelling Raku-go was held by Katsura Koharundanji in Melling Village Institute in September 2001.
Harumi Cavanagh led a range of workshops for 76 local schoolchildren, introducing the traditions of Japan, Origami and the art of the Tea Ceremony following this. A more lengthened and meditative version of the traditional ceremony was held for other members of the community.
Artists worked with local schoolchildren to create tea bowls for a raku firing later in the year.
